De første 8 uger

The first 8 weeks

Adspurgt 5. maj sagde Anastasia at hun forventede endnu 5 ugers graviditet.

The estimated birth date was June 14th, so in the beginning of May many practical baby preparations were still missing, and a name was not decided either.

When asked, May 5th, Anastasia said she was expecting another 5 week's pregnancy. It turned out that 5 days would have been a better forecast...

May 10th, the baby showed signs of exiting, and Anastasia was taken to hospital immediately. After 24 hours without progress, the delivery was "initiated", and the baby - girl as expected - was born May 11th 9.10 pm: 5.5 pounds, 19 inches and beautiful. Even without a name, the authorities produced an ID-number right away.

The baby was judged to be early, but not very early, and being  in good health, she was due for observation, but no special treatment. Anastasia & baby stayed in hospital until May 21st, and Henrik stayed with them most of the time (having a private "family room" is standard practice in Gentofte hospital).

May 22th Henrik suffered sudden stomach and back pains and was taken 12 hours to hospital for suspected kidney/gallstone - which it was not. Later, overload of a back joint was diagnosed, and Henrik was to see a physiotherapist regularly during the following weeks.

May 27th, Anastasia caught fever and was taken 12 hours to hospital for suspected post-natal infection - which it was not; rather chicken-pox (!), and the baby was immediately taken to hospital for preventive treatment, followed by 3 week's medication.

Anastasia had to suffer chicken-pox, as well as recurring gallstone trouble, for a week or more, while Henrik had to extend his paternal leave. At last the name was decided and reported to the authorities June 6th: Sofia Elisabeth Pestina Karlsson.

Anastasia's mother, Natalia, arrived June 8th, and everybody was hoping for things to be according to schedule, including Anastasia's gallstone surgery August 1st. But June 21st, Anastasia had a severe attack of gallstone pain and was taken to immediate surgery. She was not recovering easily, and had to stay in hospital until June 27th. During this time, Sofia was brought to the hospital regularly for feeding.

Whew...

To sum up the good news: The parents are almost recovered, although Anastasia still has to do some post-surgery checks. Sofia had the least trouble of all, never caught chicken-pox, and has gained weight from 5.5 pounds to 10 pounds - quite satisfactory.
